Costs for the 'Unaffordability Five' - housing, food, healthcare, child care and energy - were rising long before Trump's trade war. Rising prices for food and other basic needs is concerning Americans. Only about 20% of tariff costs show up in consumer prices. So much for the idea that tariffs are driving inflation. Affordability has become the new national anxiety.
