Trevor Charles was "shocked and surprised" when he received a renewal notice for his car insurance recently. A resident of Washington, D.C., who lives with his partner, Charles learned that the premium for their 2023 Toyota SUV had increased by about 34% to more than $1,700 for the next six months.
