Kroger plans to close about 60 underperforming supermarkets across the United States over the next 18 months, company officials said during the grocery chain’s first-quarter earnings call. Chairman and CEO Ronald Sargent said the closures are intended to allow Cincinnati-based Kroger to redirect resources toward stronger-performing locations.
